Oeshiki

Nichiren fell ill. He would leave Mt. Minobu to go to the hot springs of Hitachi to get well. He would only make it to residence of the Ikegami brothers (near Tokyo), his loyal followers.

On the morning of October 13, as the sun lifted above the horizon, Nichiren asked that the Great Mandala (Gohonzon) and an image of Sakyamuni Buddha be brought to his room. Gazing at these sacred objects with loving reverence, he listened as his beloved disciples and loyal followers began the solemn chanting of the "Stanza of Eternity" (Chapter 16 gathas) from the Lotus Sutra. Quietly, gently, the weary master's eyelids closed and he passed peacefully away.

October 13 we celebrate our founders life (Oeshiki).
