St. Nichiren wrote the Shugo
kokka-ron in the first year of the Shogen Period (1259), seven
years after his prolaiming Nichiren Buddhism. Together with
the Rissho ankoku-ron written a year later in the first year
of the Bunno Period, it is considered a major work representing
the early doctrine of Nichiren Shonin. The original manuscript
kept in the Kuonji Temple on Mt. Minobu was destroyed in a
fire in January of the eigth year of the Meiji Period (1875).
