PILGRIMAGE 2006
In October of 2006, Rev. Ryuoh Faulconer of the Portland Nichiren Buddhist Temple of Portland put together a pilgrimage to Japan for followers of Nichiren Shonin. The pilgrims would follow in the footsteps of Nichiren Shonin starting at Kiyosumi, his birthplace and ending in Ikegami, were he passed away. This page will try to highlight with pictures and words some of their experiences. The pages will be loaded with pictures and a few mpegs, so please be patient. The pages have been developed in chronological order. Please use your back button to go back or the menu at the bottom of each page. I have tried to keep the resolution as high as possible to get the best viewing. Each Temple page will include the information from brochures, web pages and books about the Temple itself that was included in handouts given to the pilgrims. I would like to thank my disciples and ministers who helped in gathering and putting this information together to make this pilgrimage a learning and spiritual experience. The word "Ji" means Temple in Japanese. If you have questions or comments please email me at ryuoh@comcast.net.
***Some pages contain movies which will autoplay. They are in quicktime format. The controllers will be visible so you may turn them off or adjust them as needed. You may want to turn down your sound before viewing the pages as some of the chanting is loud.
DAY 1
October 2nd & 3rd after crossing the international dateline.
The Pilgrims came from Houston Texas, Seattle Washington, Portland Oregon and Los Angeles California. Below we see Christie relaxing on the long flight from Houston. Because we would cross the international date line, what started as Monday the 2nd of October became the 3rd when we landed.

The computer generated image of our flight pattern on the airplanes monitors. It won't be long now as we are getting close.

The different groups would meet at Narita airport in Japan. Michael, Craig, Christie and Shami Ryusho are ready to board the bus to our hotel. After the long flight the group would stay in Narita for a good rest to begin the journey fresh in the morning.
