October 11th Wednesday

After service at Kuon Ji we would have breakfast pack and leave Mt. Minobu.

The Bus heading down the mountain through Minobu village.

As the bus passed under the main gate to Mt. Minobu we chanted the Odaimoku.

After several hours we would be in Tokyo. We would check into our hotel the Takanawa Prince then go by commuter train a few stops to Ikegami station.

Ikegami Honmon-Ji & Daibo

Our first stop would be the cremation Stupa. This is the location were Nichiren Shonin was cremated after his Parinirvana, October 13, 1282. We then headed to the Daibo Temple. This small Temple located just to the side of Ikegami Honmon-Ji is the actual location of the Ikegami brothers home. The Daibo contains the last timber of the building which once stood there.

The timber is wrapped in clothe to protect it.

This cherry tree is in bloom during October. It is said that when Nichiren Shonin passed away the cherry trees in the Ikegami complex blossomed out of season. To this day the cherry tree in front of the Daibo blooms in the spring and again in October.

We would head back up to Honmon-Ji and visit the Shoshi-do. The Temple has many services during this period and a service was happening as we went up.

We would meet with the Arch Bishop of Ikegami Honmon-Ji. Nichiren Shu has three Arch Bishops, Minobu, Ikegami and Shumuin. Their is no one central figure head of our lineage. Later that night we would go to dinner with the International division of Shumuin (Nichiren Shu Headquarters).

Dinner

After dinner several people would head out on the town to explore Tokyo before heading back to the hotel.
