2011 Week Long Retreat

Retreats are time to concentrate on your practice, meet other members of different sanghas and learn more about practice in the Nichiren tradition. They are times to develop friendship and ties. A week without worries from the outside world. Just you and your practice in a comfortable, peaceful setting. Retreats are a week long, Friday to Friday. Activities include Suigyo (water purification), daily services, chanting practice, special services, Shakyo (sutra copying) and Shabutsu (Buddha image copying) practice, vegetarian food, Shodaigyo meditation and time to reflect, stretch and enjoy the company of sangha members. We will have classes for both beginners and advanced students.

This retreat is open to anyone who would like to participate and is willing to participate in Nichiren Shu style services and practice.

Please check with your local Temples for regional retreats and conferences. We will have a formal retreat next year in 2011. Please watch this page for new information about the retreat. The 2011 retreat is tentatively set for July 29 to August 5. Please check the web page for updates.

Who can attend:

Nichiren Shu members or anyone who wishes to relax, learn and discover their Buddha nature. You are not required to be a Nichiren Shu member to attend. We welcome everyone, as long as you are comfortable practicing in the Nichiren Shu tradition for a week. Be aware that we are a chanting lineage and are sometimes referred to as the "noisy Buddhists." We will have talks, discussions and activities for beginners and advanced students. We ask everyone who attends to commit to the full week. Please contact Rev. Faulconer if you have questions about our practice.

How do I register:

We are in the process of preparing the 2010 retreat. Please check back with us at the beginning of the year (2010) for updated information about the week long retreat in 2010.

Have faith in the Great Mandala Gohonzon, the most superlative in the world.
Endeavor!
Endeavor to strengthen your faith, so that you may be blessed with the protective powers of all the Buddhas. Learn and practice to strengthen your faith. Without learning and practicing, there is no Buddhism. Follow this yourself and influence others to do the same. To learn and to practice are a part of faith. Even if it is only a word or a phrase, spread it to others.
