Study Class
"Have faith in the Great Mandala Gohonzon, the most superlative in the world. Endeavor! Endeavor to strenghthen your faith, so that you may be blessed with the protective powers of all the Buddhas. Learn and practice to strenghten your faith. Without learning and practice, there is no Buddhism. Follow this yourself and influence others to do the same. To learn and to practice are a part of faith. Even if it is only a word or a phrase, spread it to others."

Nichiren Shonin

The Nichiren Order follows the teachings of Lotus Sutra and Nichiren Shonin. We study the Lotus Sutra, Basic Buddhist Concepts and contemporary world concerns as they pertain to Buddhism. Nichiren Shonin's teachings are used to help us understand the teachings and are included in the study program. Several times a year a Beginners' Introduction to Nichiren Shu Buddhism Class is held. See the calendar for dates or contact the Temple. The study class of the Lotus Sutra is held after morning service on Sundays. Study classes will last approximately 1.5 - 2 hours. For those wishing to attend classes on the Lotus Sutra or just wanting to learn more, please consider getting a copy of the Lotus Sutra and the optional companion guide which goes over chapter by chapter, "Introduction to the Lotus Sutra" by Shinjo Suguro. We use the Murano translation of the Lotus Sutra in the class. Other translations can be used but all references and page numbers will refer to the Murano version. A couple copies of the Lotus Sutra are available for use during classes. Visit our Study page for more resources.
