SHONIN'S WORDS
The treasure of our body is more precious than those kept in a warehouse.
The most precious treasure, however, lies in our heart rather than the body.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
Here is our first newsletter for 2006. This year, we have many special

If you have a Gyoe, please wear it at the service. If you do not have a
Gyoe, they are available for a $50 donation.
NEW YEAR KITO SERVICE ON JANUARY 2
The New Year Kito Service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at 10:00

OTAKIAGE SERVICE ON JANUARY 22

The Otakiage is a ceremony to burn old Buddhist images or articles, such as
old Ofuda or Omamori (amulets) which have become too old or deteriorated to
keep. These things are to be burned and not to be thrown away. If you have
any of these items, you may bring them to the Temple and offer your prayers
with gratitude during the Otakiage.
TRAFFIC SAFETY KITO ON JANUARY 22
The Traffic Safety Kito will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2006 immediately
after the Combined Service. Please bring your cars to be blessed for safety
on the road this year.
SUNDAY SCHOOL ACTIVITY DAY ON JANUARY 29
The Sunday School is holding an Activity Day on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at
10:00 a.m. in our social hall. Please bring your children and grandchildren
to enjoy the games and camaraderie. Lunch will be served.
NEW YEAR'S PARTY ON FEBRUARY 12
Members and friends of the Nichiren Mission of Hawaii, and all other Hawaii
Nichiren Missions, i.e. Wahiawa, Hilo, Honolulu Myohoji and Puunene
Missions, are invited to attend the New Year's Party to be held on Sunday
February 12, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Nichiren Mission of Hawaii. Deadline to
sign up is Sunday, February 5. For further details please check the
enclosed application form.
NEW 2006 CALENDAR
We are pleased to send you the 2006 calendar with this newsletter. This
calendar is very special because we formatted, printed and assembled it at
the Temple with help from volunteers. The print may be lighter or darker in
some areas and other imperfections may appear, but please keep in mind the
effort of our volunteers that went into making this calendar. The dog
drawings which appear on the cover were drawn by Sunday School students.
Because there may be unexpected schedule changes during the year, please
watch for any schedule changes in our monthly newsletter.
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES FOR 2006
The annual membership dues are $10.00 per month or $120.00 per year. Our
Temple is maintained by your membership fee so we would appreciate your
kokua in this matter. Thank you.
