Nichiren's followers must strive to attain Buddhahood by shortening
sleeping hours and by cutting the time for rest. If not, you will repent
forever.

HELLO EVERYONE!
How are you? We had some cold days in January. Please be
careful of
your health and do not catch a cold.
Here are some announcements.
SETSUBUN KITO SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 5
This is a traditional ceremony of exorcism that is held at the end of the
year according to the Chinese calendar. We will be performing a special
Kito Service on February 5, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. for members who are
"Toshi-Otoko and Toshi-Onna" (men and women of the year). At the service,
a
Toshi-Otoko and Toshi-Onna will throw beans at supposedly present devils,
crying "Fuku wa uchi, Oni wa soto", which means, "Fortune in, evil
out!"
The Toshi-Otoko and Toshi-Onna for this year are those who were born in the
Year of the Dog: 1910, 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982 and 1994. Please
attend the service!
FUJINKAI MEETING ON FEBRUARY 5
Fujinkai meeting will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2006 at 9:00 a.m.
SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS ON FEBRUARY 5
Sunday School Class will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2006 during Setsubun
Kito Service. Please attend the service with your children and
grandchildren!
GENERAL MEETING ON FEBRUARY 12
General meeting will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2006 after the 10:00
a.m. service; therefore, all active members are asked to remain after the
service to attend. Your participation will be greatly appreciated.
NEW YEAR'S PARTY ON FEBRUARY 12
Our annual Nichiren Mission New Year's Party will be celebrated on Sunday,
February 12, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at our social hall. Deadline to sign up is
Sunday, February 5th. Lucky number prizes will be appreciated. Please read
and complete the application form in the latest newsletter.
BUDDHA'S NIRVANA & NICHIREN SHONIN'S BIRTHDAY SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 12
We will hold Buddha's Nirvana & Nichiren Shonin's Birthday Service on
Sunday, February 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. This is a commemorative service for
the historical Buddha's Death. Let us vow to uphold the teaching of the
Buddha.
Nichiren Shonin was born on Feb. 16, 1222. We will celebrate our
founder's birthday and vow to follow His spirit of the Lotus Sutra.
This is a special service in Nichiren Buddhism so, if you have a Gyoe,
please wear it at the service. If you do not have a Gyoe, we have it for a
$50 donation.
DIRECTORS' MEETING ON FEBRUARY 19
Directors' meting will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2006 after the 10:00
a.m. service.
SUNDAY SCHOOL MEETING ON FEBRUARY 26
Sunday School meeting will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at 9:00 a.m.
THE 2nd WORKSHOP ON NICHIREN BUDDHISM FOR LAY PEOPLE
The 2nd Workshop on Nichiren Buddhism for lay people sponsored by the
Nichiren Buddhist International Center will be held from Friday, March 10,
2006 to Sunday, March 12, 2006 at the Center facility in Hayward,
California. You will be able to know more about the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren
Shonin. If you want to participate the seminar or for more details, please
feel free to contact the ministers. The deadline to submit your application
and payment is Friday, February, 17 2006.
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES
The annual membership dues are $10.00 per month or $120.00 per year. Our
Temple is maintained by your membership fee so we would appreciate your
kokua in this matter. Thank you.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We are still in need of more members who can give their time once a week for
a month to keep our Temple clean. It only takes a few hours to do this.
You may make your own group if you wish. Please see the ministers to sign
up. Mahalo!
