NICHIREN SHONIN'S WORDS

The life is the most precious treasure for us.
"Kaenjogo-gosho"

HELLO!
How are you? Here is our September Newsletter. "September" is the month for beginnings. The Fall season begins and school starts as well. The autumn Higan is getting closer. Let us go on the Buddha’s path together!
Here are this month's announcements.

AUTUMN HIGAN SERVICE ON SEPTEMBER 17
The Autumn Higan Service will be held on Sunday, September 17 at 10:00 a.m. The Higan Service is held in the week of the spring and autumn equinoxes. This, together with O-bon, is an important annual Buddhist event for you. "Higan" means to leave here for there. To leave this shore (this world) for the yonder shore (the Buddha’s Pure Land) means to leave this world of illusion for the world of enlightenment. This is the day for us to reflect on our daily lives, vow to follow the Buddha’s path, and observe memorial services for our ancestors. Please wear your gyo-e at the service if you have one.

FUJINKAI MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 3
Fujinkai meeting will be held on Sunday, September 3 at 9:00 am.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES ON SEPTEMBER 3 & 17
Sunday School Classes will be held on September 3 & 17 during Monthly Kito service and Higan service. Please attend services with your children and grandchildren!

DIRECTORS' MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 17
A directors' meeting will be held on Sunday, September 17 following Higan service.

SUNDAY SCHOOL MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 24
A Sunday School meeting will be held on Sunday, September 24 at 9:00 a.m.

LAST CALL TO SIGN UP FOR THE WORKSHOP
Be involved with your temple, learn about who Nichiren Shonin was, practice writing the Odaimoku from our calligraphy master, in Honolulu, Rev. Ikenaga, learn more about prayer and our faith from Rev. Akahoshi who is flying in from Hayward, California as our featured speaker, and meet our members from the other islands too. The cost of $25 will include lunch, refreshments, a gift book, and others. Please call your temple to sign up.

MEETING FOR JAPAN TOUR ON SEPT. 24TH
We have organized a Japan tour. We will go to Kyoto, Minobu, Tokyo and Chiba from October 26 through November 3, 2006. The cost is about $ 2,500.00 per person. $50.00 more for neighbor island members. We will have a meeting for Japan Tour on Sunday, September 24th from 11:00 am after Sunday Service. The meeting will explain tour details and answer your questions. If you are interested in the tour, please feel free to join the meeting. For more information, please contact the ministers.

NOTICE FROM FUJINKAI
The ladies of Nichiren Fujinkai will once again participate in the City & County Mayor's Fair on Saturday, November 18, 2006. We are requesting your help and donations of handmade craft items, baked goods, patch work, small plants, and pickled items. Due to the Board of Health restrictions, bentos and sushi will not be sold. Please see Mrs. Aoki with any questions.

A BIG MAHALO FROM SUNDAY SCHOOL
A big Mahalo to all that participated in the July 30th Sunday School Activity Day. The children finished making their purple and white "Nichiren Shu" sashes and are currently practicing taiko with Reverend Maeda. We hope one day we may show you what we have learned. Also, a special thanks to all the mothers that donated their favorite dish, the fathers that performed facility repair and maintenance at the church, Ms. Joy for orchestrating the activities and Dale and Carol Adams for donating paper goods, pizza, dessert and a toddlers bowing game. Much appreciation for all your kokua.

ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES
The annual membership dues are $10.00 per month or $120.00 per year. Our Temple is maintained by your membership fee so we would appreciate your kokua in this matter. Thank you.

VISITATION INFORMATION

We are looking for members who wish to accompany the ministers to visit nursing homes. The residents of the nursing homes are so happy to see many visitors so, please see the ministers if you wish to join them.
