THIS MONTH'S SERMON
by Rev. Bungen Kaneko

It is nice to see you again. How have you been? As you can see, I am fine, but I am sad. I mean I go return to Japan tomorrow.
I have told you to chant the Odaimoku everyday. And I have also told the members at Maui the same thing. Even if I return to Japan and you keep chanting the Odaimoku, we will meet again. My being here today in Honolulu is one to your chanting of the Odaimoku. We spread the wonderful teaching of the Lotus Sutra and Odaimoku all over the world. Let us appreciate the great compassion of the Sakyamuni Buddha and believe in Sakyamuni Buddha's teachings and chant Odaimoku. Odaimoku is here to protect you.
Nichiren Shonin said "when we upon Odaimoku, we will be given all the virtues of the Sakyamuni Buddha and will be embraced in his realm of enlightenment." This is Buddha's salvation.
Today is Father's Day. This is the 7th Father's Day since I came to Hawaii. I will be 29 years old next month. When I came to Hawaii, I was 22 years old. I lived in Hawaii for 6 years. It was an instant 6 years. Through your help, I adjusted my life in Hawaii. Hawaii has accelerated my easy-going personality.
This is not our last parting. I will be back someday. So, continue to protect Odaimoku.
When the lotus flowers in the pond bloom, I will be happy if you will remember me. Thank you for everything and all of your kindness during my stay in Hawaii. You are my mother and father.

Please take care of yourself. See you again.
Aloha!
